I have to preface this review by stating that I previously had a Dyson DC17 Monster (that last a tad over a year before breaking down only to be told it was from normal wear & tear and would not be covered under warranty - I had bought it from Dyson as a refurb). When the Dyson was working it was an incredible vacuum so when it died I replaced it with a new Dyson DC27 from Sam's Club - 3 weeks after purchase it quit sucking! I checked all the traps, filters etc. and nothing seemed to be lodged in their. I called Dyson and had them walk me through trouble-shooting and at the end of the call they stated it was like something to do with the motor "grounding out" and that I needed to take it in to a service tech - however I had to go to an authorized tech and the nearest one was nearly an hour away - they would not pay for shipping to/from there. Needless to say I took the vacuum back to Sam's (within the 30 day return policy) and got my money back and started vacuum shopping again.



I looked around and had settled on this vacuum after reading several reviews.



Why a bagged vacuum? After having the Dyson(s) for over a year (and a cheapo bagless Dirt Devil prior to that) I got tired of all the dust etc. that would escape every time you had to empty the bins- and those bins feel up quickly when you have pets like I do! This bagged unit does a great job of trapping all the dust etc. and it isn't a problem when I change them out - not to mention it doesn't require nearly as much "emptying" as it holds more contents!).



I honestly cannot tell a difference in the cleanliness of my floors from going from the Dyson models to this Hoover. The suction is incredible and the unit is much lighter to use, which is never a bad thing. The unit has a nice feature where it lights up on the handle when the bag needs to be changed so their is no unnecessary "checking" on the bags.



As an added bonus it comes with a canister vacuum - I've only used it a couple of times and it seems to do an adequate job itself. It is not a cordless unit though so don't expect it to be a "dust-buster" type of item.

This is the first upright vacuum cleaner I have owned. It had such great reviews that I decided to make the switch from a canister vacuum.



Pros: The Hoover Platinum is reasonably light and easy to insert or remove the bag. It has amazing suction. It is a nice looking unit.



Cons: It is very loud, even in the low speed. The amazing suction and rotating brush makes the vacuum extremely difficult to pull back as you are vacuuming. After just vacuuming my berber carpet for a few minutes, I noticed that fuzz started appearing where I had vacuumed. On closer inspection, I realized that the combination of the rotating brush and the suction were tearing my berber carpet loops. I then got on my knees and trimmed my carpet with scissors to try to undo the damage.



After doing research about vacuums and berber carpet, I found that carpet manufacturers do not recommend vacuums with rotating brushes for Berber. Unfortunately, the Hoover Platinum does not have a manual way to change the height adjustment of the brushes - so I had to return the unit.

It's light, it's easy to use, it's easy to empty- but that's where the good news ends. This seems to be a problem with battery operated units in general, but the suction on this thing, well, sucks.



Fine if you have virtually nothing to vacuum, but that's not my house. I have crumbs and sand and so on tracked in everywhere by two darling children, and you have to move this unit slowly and repeatedly over soiled areas or they'll remain dirty.



We have a corded vac that it virtually broken that does a better job.

This Hoover Platinum Cordless Stick Vacuum works as advertised. It can really suck it up! I have never seen a vacuum get the edges like this one. It's great in the kitchen because it gets right to the edge under the cabinets! If you can ever get excited over a vacuum cleaner, this is the one. Works on all floors and the adjustment from bare floor to carpet is near the top of the handle and sooooooooooo convenient. Love it!

I spent hours between several websites researching cordless stick vacs as I've already had two and didn't want to waste money again. I've only have this one a couple of weeks but so far it's great. It's very easy to use. I have no issues with the battery life, it does wear down more quickly if you use the brush but I can do almost 1000 sq feet of smooth floor plus a couple of area rugs with the brush on with no problem on one battery charge. I love that it charges so quickly, you don't loose suction as the battery wears down, and it stands on its own, no stand, which means it can go in a closet. Suction is great, picks up crumbs, cat fur, sand with no problem. You do need to use the brush on area rugs, it even picks up cat fur on the regular carpet using the brush - old stick vac couldn't touch that. So far it's great, I hope it lasts!

Bought this to use on new hardwood and laminate floors on the uppper level of our home instead of dragging the old Electrolux out and plugging in, moving to the next room, plugging in, and so on. This little thing works much better than expected. It's powerful, it's light, it's very manueverable and it gets under the bed with ease. All with no cords. The battery has been lasting for three to four cleanings of the entire upper floor, 3 bedrooms, living room, dining room and kitchen without going dead. The LED indicator gets down to 1 bar and it's time to recharge. I bought an extra battery for this but I'm beginning to think that was a waste of money as we have yet to run out in the middle of vacuuming. Even for those one off quickie jobs to pick up a mess from crumbs or bird seed, feathers or whatever.

It's pricey but Amazon had it lower than anyone else so if you're looking for a deal look no further.

No more searching, this is it! I must say I am addicted to vaccums and when I bought my house a year and a half ago, my old vaccum didn't work on my new hardwood floors. I first tried a canister vaccum by Hoover and didn't like it at all. It was bulky and too many pieces to lug around, it also didn't have the suction I was expecting to see with a Hoover. I have hardwood floors in the kitchen, living room, dining room and hallway. Before my Hoover cordless I would manually wipe the floors with a microfiber duster. I would wipe everything into a pile and vaccum it up with the Shark. Once I saw the video of the Cordless Hoover I had to have it. So I bought the vaccum and a back up battery. It works perfect! And I can't believe how much is sucks up. My house is animal and kid free and I pick up dust almost everyday with this vaccum. If you buy this vaccum just make sure you buy a back up battery. It's well worth the money!

 "This Vac Makes Me WANT to CLEAN!" 2010-01-18

After moving into our new house a couple months ago, I realized that our old vacuum wasn't exactly the right fit for the house. We went from having a home with mostly carpet, to one with all hardwoods and ceramic tile. I need a vacuum perfect for cleaning my hardwoods and tile. The old vacuum just blew everything around on these surfaces.

After much research and seeing the positive reviews of this stick vac, I put it on my Christmas list. I was thrilled to get it as a gift for Christmas. I've had it for nearly a month now and this is my go-to vacuum. I use it all the time and I love it! It actually makes cleaning fun ... and I am not a clean freak. I hate cleaning!

To clean my floors in the past, I used to sweep the dirt in a pile, get the hand vac out and get on my hands and knees and suck up the individual piles. Now, all I have to do is just pull this lightweight vac out of the closet and go to town! It's so easy. I always place the battery right back on the charger when done with a job, so that it is ready for the next use.

I have a 2,600 sq. ft. home. I haven't tried to clean the whole house at one time yet, so I'm not sure how long of life the battery really has, but I can get through at least 2-3 rooms at once. I mostly use this in the kitchen on a daily basis, and our large ceramic tile great room.

I also love how well it gets dirt off the floor. It really gets close to the sides of the walls and gets into the nooks and crannys.

Now that I have this stick vac, and my Shark Steam Mop, I find cleaning to be a joy! These are the two major products I use on a daily basis. I highly recommend this stick vac!

It does what everyone says it does, so well that I was actually disappointed because it only took three minutes for me to do my whole apartment & then I had to put it away. That was IT? It's OVER?!



This thing looks and feels and sounds like a toy. It's really lightweight, it's shiny plastic, you can whip it around quickly. I turned it on & it's relatively quiet, which made me think "where's the suction?". I lifted it up to feel how powerful the suction was with my hand, & thought "oh no" because it seemed weak. I did the apartment to see if it worked on the doghair. I looked at the dirtcup. Wow. There was stuff in there I didn't even know was on the floor.



Then I vacuumed the light rug in the kitchen--the suction almost sucked up the rug (the rug is not secured to the floor, guess I'll be changing THAT). So I guess the lesson is, don't judge the vacuum by it's suction on your hand (unless you plan to vacuum it regularly).



This thing is awesome! I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because 1) I wanted it to be cheaper, and 2) still not sure how it works on heavier particles. But so far so good.

The battery in this unit doesn't last like it should even if you don'y use the roller brush mode. The power supply should be bigger even if it adds a little weight to the complete unit. Had I known about the limited operating time, I wouldn't have bought it. Hoover should provide an extra battery at no charge.........like OTHER reputable "tool" lines!

I read all the reviews and had concern about the battery life of the Hoover Cordless Stick Vacuum. I bought the vacuum and was relieved to find the life the the battery is no problem for me. I can vacuume the entire 1500 sq. feet of my home on a charge with power remaining. I am amazed at the suction for a small machine. Have no hesitation about this product..buy it you will love it.

 "Handy for Quick Cleanup but Clogs Easily" 2010-01-13

Bought this to replace my hand vac because I have way too much floor to clean up bending over. I have a large house, a dog and two kids and mostly wood floors.



PROS - battery is charged separately so you can store it in a closet that has no power and still have it charging. It is light enough my petite 8 year old can use it on stairs. It is attractive and swivels well. Picks up pretty well for something battery powered. Picks up edges OK. Great on stairs and hard to reach corners since the head is small. HINT - When you clean out the dirt cup, make sure the red interior component is seated correctly so the wind tunnel effect is really working. If you don't see the dirt swirling inside, you have not put it back correctly.

CONS - Clogs very easily. You must clean out the cup as soon as it starts looking full or it will cause clogs in the system that can only be removed with a wire. The cup is small so be prepared to empty before the battery runs out. Battery will not last to do an entire house unless it is small. The beater brush for doing carpets freezes up easily and requires that you remove hair and string from it quite frequently.



I would not recommend this as your main vacuum but as one you use for quick clean ups in between.
